Program Coordinator – Home Delivery Bilingual

The Program Coordinator - Home Delivery Bilingual collaborates with operations staff, community partners, and volunteers to prepare and distribute food directly to the community through the 9th Street Pantry and Home Delivery programs. This role includes creating menus for home delivery recipients and building relationships with community partners, volunteers, and community members accessing BFN services. This role will play an important role in exercising their language capabilities to engage with our diverse community. This role will work closely with the Community Outreach Associate to onboard community members to the home delivery program and pre-screening for CalFresh eligibility. This position reports to the Senior Program Manager.

A strong candidate will have experience serving food insecure community members and is familiar with food justice. They will be an effective communicator to stakeholders from various backgrounds and is able to fluently speak Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Arabic. Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours/week. Non-exempt, hourly.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm. Will be regularly scheduled to work on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:30am-6:30pm.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Direct Distribution Programs Support 50%
9th Street Pantry Support
- Support 9th Street Pantry with timely preparation, restocking, and day-to-day operations, including filling in when there are volunteer outages
- Collaborate with warehouse operations team to ensure proper quality, quantity, and variety of food are available for all direct distribution programs
- Coordinate and lead volunteers in the duration of their volunteer shift
- Regularly serve as the staff member on site for the evening pantry on Tuesdays and Thursdays, supporting volunteers and closing the warehouse
- Utilize the Client Voice software system to enter new registrants information and create monthly reports to track how many people are receiving food from BFN programs
- Work with Senior Program Manager to implement program changes to improve efficiency, reach, and impact of 9th Street Pantry

Home Delivery

- Utilize order scheduling software, Airtable, to support order fulfillment for Home Delivery program
- Support the home delivery program by creating labels, developing menu offerings, and communicating with interested recipients
- Facilitate Home Delivery member onboarding processes by conducting interviews with interested community members for eligibility
- Coordinate scheduling of Home Delivery recipients and creating delivery routes
- Work with Home Delivery packing volunteers to ensure all boxes are made according to BFN standards and all grocery boxes are picked up by Home Delivery driving volunteers 
- Work with Senior Program Manager to implement program changes to improve efficiency, reach, and impact of Home Delivery Program

Community Outreach 25%
- Support CalFresh Enrollment and Outreach efforts, including direct outreach to community members to assist with CalFresh applications and pre-screening processes and attend CalFresh trainings
- Update and maintain BFN’s outreach resources at the 9th Street Pantry
- Connect with local community based organizations to facilitate resource tabling opportunities 
- Work alongside Community Outreach Associate to represent Berkeley Food Network at community outreach activities

Volunteer Coordination 15%
- Orient volunteers and support with home delivery box assembly, pantry set-up, and driver/co-pilot check-in processes, and community member interactions.
- Lead by example - demonstrate to existing volunteers and train new volunteers on best practices for pantry operations and member interactions
- Receive and report volunteer feedback and answer questions about processes
- Identify specific volunteer needs or training opportunities at pantries, home delivery programs, and other distribution events, and share feedback with the Volunteer team.
- Lead volunteer huddles before and after shifts

Organizational Support 10%
- Create fliers, notices, and newsletters, as needed, to inform community members of updates or changes to programs
- Maintain safe and clean facilities and work environment by keeping shelves, pallet area, and workstations neat; participate in daily cleaning processes
- Maintain best practices for food handling by storing items in appropriate locations and at appropriate temperatures to prevent spoilage, infestation, and cross-contamination
- Attend and participate in staff, team, and organizational meetings
- Support and attend mobile pantries as needed
- Support Programs Team members as needed
- Support other tasks as assigned by the organization
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities.
Required Qualifications
-Minimum of 1 years of work experience in providing excellent customer service to marginalized, low-income communities and/or successful community engagement with community-based organizations serving low-income communities
- Bi- or multi-lingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, or other languages
- Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable with presentations and public speaking
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office or Google Workspace Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)
- Valid California driver’s license with insurable driving record. Vehicle ownership not required
- Ability to solve problems with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with team members
- High level of personal responsibility and accountability to assigned tasks

Preferred Qualifications
- Multilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, or Nepali language(s) 
- Experience in client-facing social services nonprofit organization. Food Banking experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with smartsheets and project planning tools, such as Airtable or Monday.com
- Strong, in-depth knowledge of northern Alameda County, including Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville, and Oakland
- Experience as a delivery driver or supporting route planning logistics
- Experience with or understanding of CalFresh program
- Experience coordinating volunteer activities
Physical Requirements
This position is primarily located at our West Berkeley offices. Candidate must be able to perform the following duties with or without accommodation:

- Participate or assist in physical tasks and activities which include but are not limited to bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, stooping, and reaching above shoulder height to move product and equipment up to 50 lbs with team-lifting up to 75 lbs
- Mobility to respond to moving vehicles, equipment, and loud noises/sounds typical in a warehouse setting
- Work in a warehouse environment with temperatures ranging from minus 2 degrees to above 90 degrees.
- Traverse the warehouse floor frequently throughout the day to execute duties 
- Stand/sit for duration of scheduled shift
- Operate computer equipment
- Respond quickly to sounds and situations 
- Communicate in clear, loud voice 
- Operate two-way radio for communications 
- Work in outdoor, seasonal weather conditions for part of shift
- Proven track record of punctuality and attendance
Compensation & Benefits
The compensation for this position ranges $28.50 - $31.00 per hour.
